Public authorities must implement digital sovereignty by the end of March 2027. Damovo and Rocket.Chat are now offering a joint, sovereign, open-source solution for digital communication.
Damovo is the first certified Rocket.Chat partner in Germany. Through this partnership, the Düsseldorf-based ICT service provider is making the secure communication platform Rocket.Chat Secure CommsOS available to German public authorities, defence organisations, and operators of critical infrastructure. The digital workspace enables messaging, voice and video calls, and more, while meeting the highest data protection and security requirements.
Growing pressure to implement
With this partnership, Damovo and Rocket. Chat are responding to the growing urgency to achieve digital sovereignty. Heads of government at federal and state level recently decided that public administrations must provide digitally sovereign alternatives by the end of March 2027.
‘Time is of the essence,’ says Matthias Berchtold, Sales Director at Damovo. ‘With Rocket.Chat, we are now offering public authorities and companies in regulated sectors a highly secure communication solution. As a certified partner, we integrate the solution into existing infrastructures and subsequently operate it with our own team in Germany.’
One platform for messaging, voice, video and AI
Rocket.Chat Secure CommsOS is an open-source messaging, voice and video communications platform with AI functions and security-critical applications. The open-source code enables organisations to carry out their own security audits and ensures independence from individual vendors. Depending on their security requirements, organisations can run the platform on-premises, in an air-gapped environment or in a sovereign cloud, thereby meeting the necessary security standards. The AI also runs on the organisation’s own infrastructure. Unlike other secure messaging platforms, Rocket.Chat allows solutions from different providers and internal systems to be seamlessly integrated.
‘However, a sovereign platform only solves part of the problem,’ says Bruno Weiblen, Head of Global Partnerships & Sales EMEA at Rocket.Chat. ‘Public authorities and institutions still need integration with their existing systems and operational support. Damovo brings the necessary experience in these critical environments.’
Part of a larger plan
The partnership is part of a larger plan and complements Damovo’s digitally sovereign communications solution, SovereignStack. It combines Rocket.Chat with specific solutions for telephony and video conferencing, creating a secure, end-to-end communications environment. Pexip, a Norwegian solution, enables sovereign, resilient and interoperable video communication. Damovo will present SovereignStack alongside its partners at the Smart Country Convention, which takes place from 12–14 October at the Berlin Exhibition Centre in Hall 26 at Stand 539.
